Course Summary:
ACCESS Training Services, Inc.
                          Your Training Resource
Confined spaces are often hazardous to the health and safety of the employees whose jobs require entering thee spaces   To protect general industry workers, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has developed and implemented 29 CFR 1910.146; Permit-Required Confined Spaces. The regulation requires an assessment and identification of all permit-required confined spaces within the workplace, implementation of a permit system for entry, training of entrants, attendants and entry supervisors, and preparation for rescue. ACCESS offers contract and open enrollment programs to prepare personnel for safe entry and ensuing work activities. Participants learn the OSHA standard requirements, identification of hazardous atmospheres and permit-required spaces, use of direct-reading indicators, respirators and personal protective equipment, development of permit system, and preparation of the entry permit.

The entrant and attendant training can be completed in 4 hours.  Supervisor level must attend entrant/attendant (E/A) program with up to 4 hours of additional training to focus upon the supervisor responsibilities, particularly hands-on training with permit writing and testing.  Non-entry rescue can be included in either program and involves hands-on training in the use of retrieval equipment (tripods, harnesses, etc.).  Rescue training includes E/A level with additional days of hands-on involving rescue practice from the spaces that the trainees are expected to rescue victims.   Depending upon the number of different confined space configurations encountered, rescue training can require an additional 2 days.  For fire departments, a week of rescue practice is not uncommon.

DURATION: Four Hours to Two and One-half Days (4-20 Hour Program) -- see above
